Saplings in the Garden!

October 24, 2025/in children, churchwide, community, fellowship, outreach, serve, stories, youth/by Communications Team
The Saplings group that meets on our church campus spent time in The Promise Garden this week planting garlic and bunching onions! It’s always a joy to see young hands at work: learning, growing, and helping care for God’s creation.

Help Empower Girls in Guatemala: Gala and Service Project This September

August 5, 2025/in adults, children, churchwide, community, outreach, serve, youth/by Communications Team

Mark your calendars for Friday, September 12 at 7:30 PM and join us at the Atlanta Country Club for an evening of dinner, fellowship, and celebration in support of the Milagro Girls School. This special gala is one of the key ways we sustain our connection to and care for the students of Milagro.

Pastor Karen Castillo will be our keynote speaker for the evening, and the program will include both a raffle and auction featuring exciting items. Tickets are available for individuals or you can reserve a full table for ten guests. Sign-up will be available online soon. Watch our communications for the link!

As part of our God’s Work. Our Hands. weekend, the Guatemala Partnership Team invites you to help create a meaningful gift for each of the 19 girls currently enrolled at Milagro. We’ll be making personal jewelry gifts to send with our love and encouragement during Pastor Karen’s visit. No experience needed—just come lend your hands and your heart.

Your participation is vital to the success of this event and our ongoing partnership. To learn more or get involved, contact Suzanne at suzanne@demost.net

Empowering the Next Generation through YELLS

May 22, 2025/in children, churchwide, community, outreach, serve, stories, youth/by Communications Team

A Story of Your Generosity At Work

For 10 years, Lutheran Church of the Resurrection has proudly partnered with YELLS (Youth Empowerment through Learning, Leading, and Serving) to invest in the lives of young people and strengthen our community. LCR has shown up again and again to support the mission of YELLS — and the impact continues to grow.

YELLS is more than an afterschool program. It’s a powerful movement that equips young people to become community leaders and changemakers. As their Executive Director, Laura Keefe, writes, “The world needs caring leaders ready to build their communities, and LCR is helping nurture that through your support of YELLS.”

Through your generosity, YELLS has been able to:

✔️ Empower 117 youth across their programs in 2024

🎓 Celebrate 100% of seniors graduating and beginning college

📍 Expand beyond Franklin Gateway to launch a second site in Fair Oaks, growing from 9 to over 40 elementary students in just one year.

These youth are making a real difference — writing proposals, organizing community events, and mobilizing neighbors for change.

LCR’s involvement has extended far beyond check-writing…though we collectively shared $5,000 in funds from our budget in 2024. LCR members have also repaired YELLS facilities, mentored students, participated in community events, and given special support from our Endowment Fund during a critical time in their work last year.

“We’ve been beyond blessed to have Lutheran Church of the Resurrection as such an engaged partner,” Laura shared. “You and your entire congregation are valued members of our YELLS family.”

As we look ahead, we remain deeply committed to walking alongside YELLS in their work to raise up leaders who learn, lead, and serve — and we’re honored to be part of this vibrant, hope-filled mission.

A Growing Partnership with Brumby Elementary

January 25, 2024/in children, community, outreach, youth/by Communications Team

by Stephen Goodnough

Some years ago, Pastor Stephen suggested we try and connect with Brumby Elementary. I had some free time and took it upon myself to do just that.

I connected with Charlene Briscoe. She was in charge of the food pantry Brumby Elementary started to help families with students at the school. LCR’s support came in the form of monetary donations that would help offset some of the items they had to purchase.

Then we got connected with Sandra Lake who had been our main contact at the school for a few years. On a couple occasions, Hattie, Charlie, and I have delivered monetary donations and other items to help them with Christmas events, Teacher appreciation week, and other things that budgets just don’t quite cover.

Last year’s Electronics Recycling event afforded us one of those occasions and we are looking forward to sharing more this year through the 2024 Electronics Recycling event happening on February 24 (share the event on Facebook).

The Brumby folks are always so appreciative of the grace LCR extends to them. Thank you for all the support. Let’s keep it going as we spread the word about the Electronics Recycling event on February 24 that will benefit Brumby.

Blessing Bags Packed

January 12, 2024/in children, outreach, youth/by Communications Team

On December 23, some of LCR’s youth and their friends gathered to pack Blessing Bags to be shared with unhoused folks through MUST Ministries.

The bags included food, hygiene, and personal care items. The idea for the youth to pack these bags was born among the Goodnough kids during a sermon on the Parable of the Talents a few weeks ago.

Thanks to everyone who helped donate supplies and pack these bags!
