We Surpassed Our Hunger Walk 2026 Goal!

April 23, 2026/in adults, churchwide, serve, stories, Uncategorized/by Communications Team

A huge and heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who walked or contributed as part of Team LCR Marietta in Hunger Walk 2026! Because of your incredible generosity, we raised a total of $9,260, reaching an amazing 115% of our $8,000 goal! Your financial contributions and your presence as walkers will make a very real difference for many people in need.

We had a fantastic turnout this year:

Local Walk: About 23 people gathered to participate in the LCR walk at McFarlane Nature Park. It was a beautiful day, and we hope to host it there again next year.

Downtown Atlanta: Stephen Goodnough and his two children headed downtown to represent LCR and officially receive the Inspiritus trophy for our past efforts as the top fundraising Lutheran church in 2025!

LCR Marietta has once again done a tremendous job in supporting this vital outreach effort. Thank you very much for all your continued support and dedication. We are already looking forward to Hunger Walk 2027!

Promise Garden Updates: Growing Hope

April 17, 2026/in adults, churchwide, community, outreach, serve, stories, updates/by Communications Team

The Promise Garden is a ministry of hands-on hope, and our volunteers have been incredibly busy! Last year, we donated an amazing 1,687 lbs. of fresh produce (a $6,500 value!) to the Community Assistance Center (CAC) food pantry.

We are also excited to announce we received a $1,500 grant from the Food Well Alliance! This funding is already bringing fantastic improvements to the garden:

  • New Washing Station & Gate: Carol Littge and Phil Sacco are finishing up a new sink washing station and recently crafted a beautiful, redesigned front gate.
  • Raised Beds: John Williams built and installed a brand-new raised bed during our March 21 Spring Work Day.

What’s Growing? We recently harvested our winter cabbage, broccoli, and Brussels sprouts! Currently, we have onions, collards, carrots, spinach, and garlic growing, and we’ve just planted our early spring veggies like lettuce, peas, radishes, bok choy, and herbs.

A huge thank you to all our volunteers who make this ministry possible! (Learn more about the CAC’s impact in our community at ourcac.org).

Extending Christ’s Love, One Goodie Bag at a Time!

March 26, 2026/in adults, churchwide, community, fellowship, outreach, serve/by Communications Team

A huge thank you to our wonderful Shepherd Staff! This dedicated group recently gathered to assemble bright, beautiful goodie bags for the senior citizens in our church family. Packed with fun treats and topped with colorful bows, these care packages are a wonderful reminder to our seniors that they are cherished and thought of.

Shepherd Staff does so much behind the scenes to ensure everyone in our congregation feels God’s love and compassion. Thank you to these folks for being such a blessing to our community!

Welcome Pastor Bonner!

March 18, 2026/in adults, churchwide, community, updates/by Communications Team

Dear Resurrection Family,

We are delighted to announce that Rev. Dr. Ronald Bonner will be joining Lutheran Church of the Resurrection as our Interim Pastor!

Pastor Bonner brings a remarkable depth of experience, profound theological insight, and a lifelong passion for justice to our congregation. As we enter this transitional season, we are incredibly blessed to have his guidance, preaching, and leadership.

About Pastor Bonner For nearly thirty years, Pastor Bonner has served as an ordained minister in both the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and the United Church of Christ (UCC). Among his many ministry highlights:

  • Extensive Leadership: He has held significant leadership roles within denominational offices and has served as the Manager for Multicultural Resources for Augsburg Fortress Publishers.
  • Deep Education: He holds a Master of Divinity from Chicago Theological Seminary, a Doctor of Ministry from Emory University’s Candler School of Theology, and a Master’s Certificate in Public Leadership from the Harvard Kennedy School.
  • Passionate Authorship & Speaking: He is an active public speaker, workshop leader, and author. His newest book, Making It Plain, explores the deconstruction of divisive narratives and the vital work of ending bigotry.

Prior to his pastoral calling, Pastor Bonner also brought his strong administrative and leadership skills to the corporate world, working in human resources and sales for IBM and AT&T.

Please join us in warmly welcoming Rev. Dr. Ronald Bonner to the Resurrection family!

LCR Named Top Fundraising Lutheran Church for the Hunger Walk

February 26, 2026/in adults, churchwide, outreach, serve, stories/by Communications Team

When the people of LCR come together for a cause, incredible things happen. We are thrilled to announce that LCR has officially been named the top fundraising Lutheran church in Georgia for the 2025 Hunger Walk! We set a goal of raising $7,500 with 35 walkers, but our amazing community blew those numbers away, ultimately raising $11,400 with 43 walkers.

To celebrate this amazing achievement, John Moeller, the CEO of Inspiritus, will be joining us in worship on March 8th. John will be presenting LCR with the Inspiritus Hunger Walk trophy at the end of the first service and the beginning of the second service. This presentation will beautifully coincide with the kickoff of our Christian Response campaign, where we will be celebrating all of our various outreach ministries.

But we aren’t stopping there. It’s time to lace up our sneakers and defend our title for 2026!

The 2026 Atlanta Community Food Bank Hunger Walk is happening on Sunday, March 15th. To make it easy for our whole church family to participate, LCR will be hosting a local walk right here in our neighborhood at McFarlane Nature Park (just half a mile from the church).

Whether you want to walk with us in the park or support the team from afar, we need your help to fight food insecurity in our community.

Want to join the LCR team or make a donation? Visit LCR’s team page by scanning the QR code above. Let’s make this year our most impactful one yet!

Continuing Support: Disaster Relief Trip 2026

February 5, 2026/in adults, churchwide, community, outreach, serve, updates/by Communications Team

We are planning a Disaster Relief trip to continue helping those who were impacted by Hurricane Helene. Volunteer help continues to be needed as it is estimated the recovery efforts will continue for at least 10 years. This trip will be from Tuesday, March 24th through Saturday, March 28th. We will be traveling to the Asheville, NC area using Lutheridge as our base camp. Efforts will be coordinated through Lutheran Disaster Relief – Carolinas (LDRC). Volunteers from LCR will be joined by volunteers from other Lutheran churches in the Atlanta area.

Everyone/Anyone who has a desire to help those who are still struggling with the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene are encouraged to join – either for the entire trip or for a part of the trip. Most of the work to be done will be things like painting, insulating, drywall work, exterior repairs, etc. But there is also the need for cooking meals for the volunteers, supply runs, offering support to the families to name a few. There are no skills required to participate other than a desire to help others in need.

For more information please contact Mark Brosch (404-915-4407).

Spring Good Fellowship Dinners

December 29, 2025/in adults, churchwide, community, fellowship/by Communications Team

Our Spring 2026 Good Fellowship Dinners are coming up (February, March, April, and May), and we’d love for you to be part of them. These gatherings are a meaningful way to connect, share a meal, and grow in fellowship together.

🗓️ Sign-up deadline: Sunday, January 25, 2026

All the details on how it works and how to sign up are available below:

HERE’S HOW IT WORKS:

All adults are invited. If you are single or part of a couple and only one of you is available, you may bring a guest, or we will find another person to join the dinner.

Every month, new hosts are assigned for each of ~8-10 people (including the hosts).  The hosts and guests are rotated monthly to allow everyone an opportunity to meet as many of the other participants as possible.

The dinners will be held in the host’s home or other location of the host’s choosing.  Approximately 2 weeks before their assigned month, hosts will set up the date and time, and contact the assigned members in their group.  Please try to give assigned guests as much notice as possible.  The dinners may be brunch, lunch, outdoor barbeques, picnics, buffets, seated dinners, etc.  Flexibility and creativity are encouraged.

If you cannot attend one of the dinners you are assigned to, please let your hosts know ASAP.  The hosts then have the option of contacting a substitute from the substitute list, or inviting anyone else from LCR they may choose.  If you cannot find someone, please let Nancy Papp know ASAP and she will try to contact someone.

The hosts provide the main entrée, and each person will be contacted regarding what to bring:  hors d’oeuvres, bread and salad, side dish, or dessert.  This will be coordinated by the hosts.  Be the first in your group to RSVP so you can choose which one to bring!  Everyone brings their own beverages, beer, or wine.  The hosts usually provide water, coffee, and/or tea.

If your assigned hosts have not contacted you by the beginning of the assigned month, please feel free to contact them or Nancy Papp.  Due to scheduling issues, the hosts may occasionally have to delay their dinner until the following month.  If there is a month that you cannot host, indicate when you sign up and Nancy will try her best to accommodate you when scheduling.

Register by sending an email to Nancy: nancy.papp@harrynorman.com

Collecting Essential Midwife Kits for February Mission Trip

December 22, 2025/in adults, churchwide, outreach, serve, stories/by Communications Team
What we collect here will be used in the moment of birth.

We are again assembling Mid-Wife Kits to send to Guatemala with the Mission group going in February. Some of the items that we will be collecting are bath towels, wash clothes, ivory soap, 36″ squares of muslin or cotton fabric and receiving blankets.

In January look for a display with tags listing the items and quantity that are needed. Have questions: contact Marge Mynhier mdmynhier@bellsouth.net
