Finding Renewal in a Restless World
From the earliest days of the Church, Christians have understood the need for sacred pauses; moments to step away from the noise of daily life and listen for the still, small voice of God. Jesus himself often withdrew to quiet places to pray, and the Psalms speak of God leading us beside still waters and restoring our souls.
In our own time, finding that stillness can be difficult. Even when we try to rest, our minds can keep racing. That’s why many people turn to prayerful practices that engage the body as well as the mind, reminding us that God made us as whole beings.
One such practice is the sound bath, an immersive experience using the vibrations of instruments like singing bowls, chimes, and drums to invite deep rest and renewal. The gentle waves of sound can help calm the nervous system, quiet the mind, and make space for prayer, reflection, and God’s peace to settle in.
Pairing a sound bath with somatic movement, gentle, guided movement and breath, can help release tension we may not even know we’re holding. When we move freely, without judgment, it can become a form of prayer in itself: a way of loving God with heart, soul, mind, and strength.
If you’ve been longing for a space to breathe, pray, and reconnect with God’s peace, join us for An Evening of Rest and Renewal on Sunday, September 7 at 5 PM. Wellness practitioner Keon Roebuck will guide us through a Sound Bath Experience, followed by an optional Somatic Dance session. Bring a yoga mat or blanket, a pillow, and comfortable clothes. Come as you are, and leave refreshed.
