Campus Outreach Ministry: Johannesburg

Campus Outreach Ministry (COM) is dedicated to developing personal relationships with college students by sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ and helping them to develop as Christians. In addition to COM initiatives, Kris Viljoen, daughter of Resurrection member Pam Osterland, also works with Johannesburg “street kids” and is planning a camp program for underprivileged children. Iglesia Luterana Agustina de Guatemala (ILAG)

ILAG is a national Lutheran synod in Guatemala that includes approximately 20 congregations in primarily rural regions throughout the country.  and a companion synod of ELCA's Southeastern Synod.  Inclusive of , ILAG operates El Mirador, a pre- and elementary school in Boca del Monte, a relatively poor, crime-ridden barrio, and the Lutheran Center that includes guest housing and seminary facilities in Los Alamos San Miguel Petapa.
 
Support Opportunities:

  • El Mirador: ILAG operates the pre- and elementary school in Boca del Monte. Opportunities are available for individuals, families and groups to provide financial support for student scholarships and facility operations  Annual tuition scolarships are approximately $560 and allow students to receive quality educations that potentially keep them off the streets and out of gangs.
  • Lutheran Center:  ILAG also operates this housing and seminary facility where Resurrection members have assisted in maintaining and upgrading the building. Additional volunteer support is needed to paint, build, upgrade electrical, water and sanitary facilities and many other duties. 
  • Mission Trips: In conjunction with ELCA's Southeastern Synod, Resurrection offers short-term mission trips to Guatemala each year.  In addition to working with fellow Guatemalan Lutherans who are, generally, poor and of Maya heritage, participants also learn about the culture and history of the Maya people and the nation of Guatemala.
